 UNUSUAL NATURAL HISTORY 3

The lower jaw of a baboon showing the tooth root arrangement

'The four pictures below are of various deer species hunted in Maghalaya India.I noticed that one of the hunting trophies seemed odd among deer, in that the antler beams were long and the antler itself were rather muntjack like in appearance though keeping a basic typical axis deer look. The man who took the animal stated that the deer species is no longer to be found in the Garo hills and the animal itself stood over five feet in hight. Genetic tests are to hopefully verify if it is an unknown species or the most likely senario of being a known species but just a bit weird, maybe hybredization.

This is a typical sambar head

Typical common muntjack hea with long antler pedicles.

The remains of a mumified fox found at Arne Nature Reserve; the place found was not the original place of decomposition (it had either been moved from a dry place or fallen from a tree, typical leopard feeding behaviour). There was no evidence of predation.

Ths is the odd looking headIt is larger than an average hog deer and has longer antler pedicles. It maybe just a young sambar.

Typical hog deer head, but with a slight distortion to the right antler beamThey have long antler pedicles.
